The Cookie
What is an alfajor anyways?
The delicious Alfajor we confection at The Alfajor Co. is a cloudlike flour and starch wafer cookie with a traditionally rich Dulce de Leche filling and coconut around the edge.
Originally called Alajú between the years 500AD-1400AD, the cookie was born from the marriage of Christian and Muslim culture in the Iberian Peninsula in what is now known as the south coast of Spain. As the time went by and the cookie travelled to many different countries, the pronunciation began to change into what we now know as Alfajor. These countries are: Andorra, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Southern Brazil, Southern France, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
But how to pronounce it?
Singular [Alfaˈxoɾ] and Plural [Alaˈxo ɾes]
And how do you eat it?
Ahh.. well the challenge is not to eat the whole dozen in one go ;) however we would suggest you share them with your loved ones or simply set some aside, sit back, relax and indulge!
